Biographical Statement
Matthew J. Taylor, MPT, RYT has 22 years of clinical experience in
orthopedic and sports physical therapy. He received his Masters of Physical
Therapy degree from Baylor University in 1981. he served as an active duty
Army Medical Specialist officer in the United States Army from 1980 through
April 1988. In 1988 he opened his private practice in Galena Illinois
www.taylorpt.com In 1995 He opened the integrated health club within his practice, Taylor Fitness Inc.
He became a registered, advanced-level yoga therapist in 1998 after a personal
healing experience involving yoga therapeutics. For the past five years
as a national seminar presenter, he has taught hundreds of licensed
rehabilitation professionals how to integrate mind-body science into
traditional rehabilitation www.yogatherapy.com. He has authored numerous
articles on yoga therapy in journals,
text books and APTA publications.
He has published two books, one of which is "Balance: Constructing a Firm
Foundation", an integral, cash-based program for fall prevention. Among the
programs he has developed are The Titanium Club , a program of yoga and
somatic-type movement for individuals with lower extremity joint replacements,
and Spinal Rhythms for patients with chronic spine pain.
Active locally and nationally in developing wellness programming for people with disabilities, his program for the Jo Daviess County Workshop won the Illinois "Best of the Best" in new programming for rehab facilities in 2000.
He is presently working on his dissertation for his doctorate with an emphasis on adult education in Transformational Learning & Change thorough the California Institute of Integral Studies. The degree is a transdisciplinary study with special focus on identifying dynamic systems influence and context in educational settings. His dissertation will present a case study of a prototype participatory back school model based on the action research method of collaborative inquiry.
In the summer of 2003 Matt sold his physical therapy practice and health
club in order to pursue his vision of how rehabilitation can become more
compassionate and comprehensive. Now residing in Scottsdale, Arizona, he
will be delivering those services in various clinic venues. Simultaneously,
he is launching an online learning community to collaboratively develop
additional tools and skills necessary for implementing this innovative
delivery model. Dynamic Systems Rehabilitation is the name of both the
clinic and the network of professionals participating in the online
community. In addition to working with clients, Matt will continue to
teach nationally and publish to support the advancement of rehabilitation.
